The Ball Slide stages from SMI can be used in a variety of applications which require movement with a low co-efficient of friction (< .003), limited stroke, and accurate straight line travel for carrying light loads over many cycles.
The Ball Slide is pre-built, pre-loaded and accurate over short repetitive strokes. Since the ball slide is based on rolling elements with contact on hardened and precision ground shafts, the life is predictable according to B-10 life calculations and is defined by travel length and loads applied.
The Ball Slide is a pre-made, ready from the box type product that give great flexibility to Design Engineers, tool builders, automation application, robotic grippers, and many other designs limited only by imagination.
A single ball slide can be used by itself as a pre-made linear stage for such applications as mechanical pushers on an assembly line, attached to a pneumatic cylinder for accurate straight line motion, or added to a rack & pinion for motorized operations. One can also attach the bearing assembly to the top carriage for a mechanical slide/cam trigger device (not shown).
Combine two or more ball slides on a flat plate, add a top plate and the result is a complete linear stage with any mounting plate size desired. |
Add a bracket to the top plate, add end supports, a lead screw and handle for a complete linear stage that is driven by hand. Or, add a micrometer drive (see the MAC) for an adjustable stage for precision placement.
