SMI's Capabilities

Specialty Motions, Inc.  (Team SMI) is a Manufacturer, Distributor, Integrator and Assembler of Linear Motion components, Stages, Slides, Tables and Complete Motion Systems

Specialty Motions, Inc. is a California S Corporation established in 1990 as a distributor of linear products.  As such, SMI has taken a very unique approach to distribution in that we provide our customers with the most complete lines of motion products available from around the world; far beyond the scope of the typical distributor. A brief list of those represented includes but is not limited to INA, SKF, IKO, Bosch Rexroth, Thomson Industries, Hiwin, NSK, NB, Kerk, BS&A, Rockford and THK to name only a few.

SMI has a well-established engineering department, highly trained (factory trained) sales team, customer service organization and a product depth far exceeding that of most
manufacturers.

SMI's Machine Facility
Our machining facility was established with the sole purpose of providing our motion customers with value-added machining services that were not available in-house. These services couldn't be done by the typical machine shop due to the intricacies of this technology.

This capability has grown to include Engineering Design, System Integration and Assembly of products to custom specifications. We are especially proud of our own line of linear stages, ball slides and crossed roller tables based upon market feedback and customer input.

We began our shop in 1992 with the introduction of our first Bridgeport knee mill.  We tooled this machine for the purpose of modifying our hardened and precision ground linear shafting to customer specifications. This material is 62 - 65 Rc which most shops cannot machine since it is so far outside the typical hardness range. We, however, specialize in this material and have become very proficient. Our tooling department contains a variety of carbide type cutters and tooling designed to penetrate, drill, and tap this material.
Quality Assurance

Quality is controlled through our Quality Assurance program developed and designed according to ANSI/ISO specifications and requirements.  Our Inspection capabilities include ...
